The Sea in Summer

Slow and lumpy swells
littered with weed
lazy, turgid and sulky
solemnly rolling
over corrugations
in the shallows
tepid after yesterday's
sweltering heat
exhausted and bloated
under the gaze of a red
emerging newborn sun.

Swimming out to sea
where distant launches
sped towards
the disappearing bay
above fleecy clouds
in a sky pure and baby blue
returning to the shore
where distant joggers
loom larger
in the shallows
lapping the littered beach.
